Marketing & Creative Project Specialist

Job Description

The Student Affairs division of Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Marketing & Creative Project Specialist to join its growing Communications team.


Comprised of more than 25 offices and departments across the Homewood campus, Student Affairs is dedicated to fostering student belonging, development, engagement, and success while helping students make the most of their experience at Johns Hopkins. The Communications team supports the division’s efforts by providing high-level communications functions that reach students, staff, faculty, families, and other stakeholders.


Reporting to the Director of Communications and Digital Strategy, the Project Specialist will actively manage a range of projects from start to completion, ensuring all components are executed strategically and efficiently to achieve desired outcomes.


The ideal candidate will be highly strategic, organized, and process-driven. They will excel at asking thoughtful questions, synthesizing information, anticipating challenges, and implementing efficiencies to help ensure the Communications team is operating at its full capabilities. It is critical they have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, function with a high degree of empathy, and prioritize building relationships across the division and broader campus community.


This is a new position within the Communications team. It offers an exciting opportunity to coordinate and streamline messages that enhance the student and staff experience in an engaging and creative way.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans, including budgets, resource allocation, and creative briefs specific to marketing goals.
  • Create and implement a project intake process; manage project schedules and workflows using project management tools.
  • Collaborate with the Student Affairs Communications team, including designers, writers, and content creators, to produce high-quality marketing communications materials.
  • Provide clear and concise communication to all project stakeholders, including staff and external vendors.
  • Manage client expectations and feedback loops, ensuring deliverables resonate with target audiences and meet desired outcomes.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate innovative marketing concepts.
  • Ensure the quality of all deliverables meets brand guidelines and project objectives and effectively positions Student Affairs’ unique offerings.
  • Identify and manage project risks and roadblocks.
  • Track project progress, analyze marketing campaign performance, and recommend adjustments for optimization.
  • Support the collaborative management of the campus digital signage network, ensuring appropriate and timely advertisements relevant to students.
  • Manage relationships and contracts with vendors and freelancers.
  • Provide supervision for one dotted line direct report.
  • Remain current on the latest marketing trends and technologies in higher education.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of the creative process from ideation to execution, with a focus on marketing communication.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; ability to deal effectively with a broad spectrum of professionals and stakeholders.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Proven client relation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello, Monday.com).
  • Outstanding ability to articulate details, status updates, and desired outcomes to both management and clients.
  • Must work collegially and collaboratively with other staff, internal clients, and external vendors.
  • Must be autonomous and able to self-manage, work independently, and set own priorities.
  • Budget management experience.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, and additional related education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher education experience is a plus.

Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually ($75,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
