Location: Onsite - San Diego, CA, 9/80 work schedule

Job Summary: Performs complex mechanical engineering assignments following designated standards and procedures. Works closely with other engineering disciplines. Duties require application of engineering principles and techniques. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts or participates in research, design, development and testing of mechanical hardware to include component modeling/analysis and tolerance analysis for designated products and/or customer applications.
  • Assesses the severity of problems, determines corrective action, resolves technical problems, performs fault isolation, and implements solutions.
  • Designs prototype systems.
  • Specifies materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Modifies existing engineering designs.
  • Conducts prototype construction and test. Logs, compiles and evaluates engineering data.
  • Writes manuals, procedures and reports.
  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data.
  • Assists in preparing design specifications.
  • Assists in drawing and specification inputs.
  • Assists in the preparation of specifications and assessment of vendor products.
  • Applies and maintains quality standards.
  • Keeps abreast of improvements in mechanical engineering techniques.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Four-year college degree in mechanical engineering or science discipline plus a minimum of five years of experience OR an applicable Master's degree and proven track record of Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Desired experience in designing, analyzing, developing and testing hardware. Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to use typical office automation products such as work processing and spreadsheets. Mental ability to perform analytical work. Ability to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines. Good interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:

  • CAD

  • GD&T

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

  • Thermal management experience

  • Exposure to FEA and CFD

  • Must be a US citizen, eligible for DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications (Candidates possessing the following qualifications will be given priority):

  • SolidWorks

  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical Suite OR IcePak OR an equivalent/similar FEA software (i.e. Steady State and Transient Thermal, Structural, Shock, and Vibe simulations).

  • Understands passive methods of heat transfer via advanced conduction heat transfer solutions.

Cubic Pay Range:

$65,000 - $144,962 + benefits.

The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
