Job Description

SUMMARY

Assists the automated systems librarian in the management of the automated library system and other electronic resources in the college’s libraries. This position will also handle inter-library loan requests from college libraries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist the automated systems librarian with maintenance and upkeep of the library automation system. This includes maintaining login and authorization files, and monitoring the use of the system.
  2. Assist the automated systems librarian in compiling and distributing statistical and database reports as requested by department director, college library chairs, and others.
  3. Use the library automation system to print notices for library materials, which are overdue and sends notices to libraries for review and action.
  4. Assist the automated systems librarian with training responsibilities. This includes helping to produce training materials, conducting training sessions, assisting library staff with telephone questions, etc.
  5. Handle interlibrary loan requests for college libraries. This includes searching the OCLC database, selecting appropriate records, requesting items, delivering items to individual who made request, retrieving items from individual when they are due, returning items to lending library by due date, and maintaining statistics, etc., on this activity.
  6. Clean and perform minor maintenance on equipment owned by department.
  7. Perform regular inventory on equipment owned by department.
  8. Gather, maintain, and report statistical information on various tasks performed.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE

3 years years experience in library technical/support service required.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge of library automation system.
  2. Knowledge of computer equipment, including peripherals, such as laser scanners and printers.
  3. Knowledge of operations of established software packages.
  4. Knowledge of OCLC policies and procedures for ILL-use.
  5. Knowledge of HCCS ILL policies and procedures.
  6. Able to deal with ILL users in a friendly and competent manner.
  7. Able to attend to details.
  8. Able to organize information.
  9. Able to work independently.
  10. Good oral and written communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
