Early Childhood Education Program Director & Tenure-Track Faculty
This position is an on-campus, full-time, tenure-track appointment covered by the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) collective bargaining unit. Starting salary for 12 months between $52,658.98 - 111,068.20 dependent on certifications, years of teaching experience, and education received.

Tenure-Track Faculty teach a full-time load as per the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) bargaining agreement. They advise and mentor students and participate in governance of their departments and the college.

Essential Job Functions:
- Teach a variety of first- and second-year college level early childhood courses to fulfill the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services requirements for head teachers in childcare centers and family home care programs.
- Provides classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college.
- Informs students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the course; prepares a course syllabus for each course and distributes it early in each term.
- Is available for student advising/mentoring, particularly regarding Early Childhood Education grants and scholarships and practicum placement and supervision.
- Maintains regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provides assistance to students in a timely manner.
- Maintains accurate scholastic records of students; submits required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.
- Participates in student recruitment and retention efforts. Coordinates and works with state-wide Early Childhood Education navigators.
- Coordinates with financial aid and state-wide programs to report and guide work on Early Childhood Education related grants.
- Participates in professional development activities related to discipline knowledge and/or teaching skills.
- Participates in state-wide Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity (ECACE) meetings and coordinates the college’s work with this organization.
- Performs professional duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the college.
- Participates in departmental governance, including curriculum development, instructional materials selection, and academic assessment.
- Participates in college-wide shared governance, including Parkland College Association (PCA) Senate, its committees, administrative committees, and accreditation committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department chair.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, or Master’s Degree in related field with 18 graduate credit hours in early childhood education.
- At least two years full-time teaching in higher education.
- At least two years of program direction in Early Childhood Education higher education programs.
- At least two years’ experience in grant management.
- At least five years’ experience as Director of a Childcare Center.
- Demonstrated ability and strong commitment to teaching and learning at a diverse comprehensive community college.
- Experience with technology that supports teaching of early childhood education in both the classroom and in an online environment.
- Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
