About the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development
The Department of Education Leadership, Policy, and Human Development (ELPHD) comprises 40 full-time faculty members and more than 750 students. ELPHD advances education through scholarship, leadership, and advocacy. Faculty in ELPHD prepare counselors, educational leaders, and workplace professionals who are committed to improve education—from K-12 schools, to community colleges and universities, to workplace training—through applied theory, rigorous research, professional ethics, and data-driven best practice. ELPHD offers graduate programs in Adult and Lifelong Education; Community College Leadership; Counselor Education; Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis; Educational Leadership; and Higher Education Opportunity, Equity, and Justice. Essential Job Duties

The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development seeks an outstanding colleague to work in the area of Adult and Lifelong Education (ALE) with expertise in Training and Development. This tenure-track appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Adult and Lifelong Education Program. A successful candidate will be expected to maintain a record of scholarly research, publication and grant-writing commensurate with a tenure-track position in a research university (very high research activity). The position includes working closely with program faculty, students, and constituents through research, teaching, service, and outreach activities as part of the faculty role.

A successful future colleague will:

  • Contribute scholarly expertise in research in the priority area of adult teaching and learning, focused on training and development, human resource development, instructional design, workplace learning or a closely related area.
  • Teach existing and/or develop graduate courses within the online Training & Development and/or Adult Education master’s degree programs and within the residential Adult & Lifelong Education Ph.D. concentration
  • Contribute to program success by collaboratively marketing, recruiting, networking and building connections with constituents, advising and mentoring master’s and doctoral students with preferable attention to further expanding the Training and Development program;
  • Advise students in both residential and online programs
  • Engage in local, state, national and potentially international service and leadership
  • Participate in outreach and service efforts to meet the needs of communities within and beyond North Carolina
  • Contribute to the overall departmental and college and university mission successes through active commitment to research, teaching, extension, and service.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience with an emphasis on Adult & Lifelong Education/Training & Development or a closely related discipline.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate potential for excellence in faculty realms of research, teaching, extension and service.
  • An established or developing program of research to advance in Adult and Lifelong Education, training and development, workplace learning, human resource development or a related disciplinary area.
  • Evidence commitment to serving and mentoring all types of learners in all communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated potential for successful leadership in the field nationally and collaboration with faculty colleagues and community partners locally.
  • A strong record of, or potential for, external research funding.
  • Ability to teach both face-to-face and online courses
