Summary of Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Dynamic Systems and Control at the rank of Assistant Professor with a starting date in August 2025.

The ME Department at UNH seeks excellence through diversity among its administrators, faculty, staff, and students. The Department is interested in creative scholars who can make fundamental contributions in Dynamic Systems and Control. A particular interest exists in AI-based control. Application areas of interest include but are not limited to: biomechanical/biomedical systems; UxV swarms for remote sensing and infrastructure inspection; renewable energy; safety guarantees in controls; control theory development; dynamical systems and network theory; and manufacturing.

The successful candidate will build on current strengths in the department and will have opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across campus. Possible affiliations include the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, the Computer Science Department, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering, the Integrated Applied Mathematics Program, the UNH John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center, the Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems, the Atlantic Marine Energy Center, and the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space.

The ME Department at UNH has built a strong reputation for performing research in Dynamic Systems and Control and boasts access to state-of-the art laboratories and field-based facilities. Candidates who can leverage these unique resources and/or engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across campus will be viewed especially favorably. Opportunities for collaborative engagement include the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, the Computer Science Department, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering, the Integrated Applied Mathematics Program, the UNH John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center, the Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems, the Atlantic Marine Energy Center, and the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space.

The successful candidate is expected to (1) establish and maintain a productive level of high-quality scholarly work; (2) excel as a teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; (3) successfully mentor graduate research students; and (4) participate in Department, College and University service activities.
