Description

Garden City Community College is a vibrant and dynamic community college located in the heart of the rural Southwest Kansas high plains region. Officially designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the College serves a student population which reflects the area’s rich diversity. The College serves approximately 2,000 students across multiple populations including on-campus, online, and area high schools and has a history of strong program options in both transfer and technical education. The College is located in Garden City, a community with a recent history of robust population growth. Garden City has many amenities including arts and culture, plentiful shopping, and daily jet service to Dallas.     

Garden City Community College’s Science and Mathematics Division seeks an experienced teaching professional who is passionate about helping students further their educational and career goals. The primary duties for this position are teaching core computer science and cybersecurity courses. Areas of instruction may include hardware, software, networking, security, and programming. The teaching assignment may include daytime, evening, and online instruction.  The typical teaching load is 5/5 or 30 credit hours per year.  This is a tenure track, full-time (172-day) faculty position covered by the Negotiated Agreement.    

Supervision is provided by a Division Chair, the Dean of Academics, and the Vice President of Instructional Services.   

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Participating in course and curriculum design, student advisement, program review, course assessment, program assessment, and college committees as required to maintain and improve learning environments.  
  • Remain current in the subject matter and in the techniques most effective to promote student learning.
  • Providing individual and small group facilitation of learning, assessment of student learning, and identification of appropriate learning materials.
  • Participate in staff and college meetings and contribute through appropriate committee assignments.
  • Create and revise curriculum to meet the statewide transfer agreements in computer science areas.
  • Prepare students to be positive social and economic contributors to society
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

Required:  

  1. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or a related field OR a master’s degree with 18 graduate level credit hours in these areas. 

 

Preferred:  

  1. Successful teaching experience in higher education is preferred
  2. Successful teaching experience with diverse populations
  3. Knowledge of instructional design for online learning
  4. Industry experience or certifications in relevant computer technology and skill sets
  5. Certifications from CompTIA, ISC2 or comparable organizations are highly valued
  6. Ability to motivate students of diverse learning styles
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
  8. Show potential for service to division, college, and the community
