Job Description

The Research Coordinator Senior position with the Southwest Health Equity Research Collaborative (SHERC) Administrative Core fulfills two key roles. Most of the responsibilities (80%) are assigned to the evaluation team, as this position will work closely with the Lead Evaluator to coordinate instrument design, data collection, management, analysis, preparation of reports for dissemination, coordination of evaluation activities across the program, and management of the evaluation research protocol with the NAU IRB. A portion (20%) of this position is dedicated to coordinating SHERC's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) activities in direct collaboration with the DEIJ Lead, and the SHERC Executive team. This position is situated in the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) in the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).

Data Collection & Management - 30%

  • Instrument design, data collection, data management, analysis (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Support internal/program planning efforts.
  • Collaboratively develop project timelines.
  • Assist with the management of the evaluation research protocol with the NAU Institutional Review Board (such as addendums/annual renewal paperwork).


Evaluation Coordination - 25%

  • Collaborates with the lead evaluator to coordinate evaluation efforts across project teams.
  • Plans and implements evaluation activities, and supports internal evaluation capacity building efforts.
  • Responsible for scheduling/organizing team meetings, documents and follows-up on actions.
  • Supports planning efforts to meet team and program goals.
  • May lead the work of a graduate student to support evaluation activities.


Analysis & Reporting - 20%

  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative evaluation records (primary and secondary sources).
  • Contribute to the design of evaluation reports.
  • Prepare and edit technical evaluation reports.
  • Assist with evaluation reporting for the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Coordinating Center and the funding agency (National Institute of Health).


Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice Coordination - 20%

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) framework/activities with SHERC stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the SHERC Executive Committee and facilitate communication.
  • Plan DEIJ activities with the DEIJ Lead.


Other - 5%

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Sciences (Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology etc.), Evaluation, or Public Health and
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in program evaluation or coordinating complex research programs; OR A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of health equity and or health disparities.
  • Knowledge about best practices in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ).
  • Experience using survey development platforms for data collection, such as Qualtrics.
  • Proficiency in conducting mixed methods research (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software (NVivo and/or Atlas-ti preferred).
  • Preparation of human subjects review board materials (applications, addendums & reports).
  • Data management experience.
  • Experience conducting independent data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with written and oral communication to technical and non-technical audiences.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods, data collection, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human subjects' protections/responsible conduct of research.
  • Familiarity with best practices for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ).


Skills

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex grant projects or health related programs.
  • Experience with qualitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Experience with data entry.
  • Experience designing and implementing data management protocols.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience with survey/instrument design, and qualitative interview design.
  • Significant experience contributing to, writing, and editing technical reports and creating presentations.
  • Ability to effectively engage diverse groups (varied scientific expertise, backgrounds, roles etc.).


Abilities

  • Coordinate complex evaluation activities across multiple program components in a fast-paced setting.
  • Balance competing priorities to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and work as part of a team to meet program goals.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $61,627 - $65,942. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
