Adjunct Criminal Justice faculty instructors are professionals with the responsibility of providing a quality learning experience for Southeast Arkansas College students on a semester basis. Adjunct faculty reports to the department chair to perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning.
Functions:
Contributes to the overall achievement of the colleges mission and goals through effective instruction and classroom management. Plans and prepares for assigned instructional courses. Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy. Develops instructional outcomes and appropriate evaluation and assessment methods of learning. Creates and maintains an environment of rapport and respect. Clearly establishes expectations for learning and achievement. Maintains up-to-date accurate records on attendance and student progress. Meets with current and prospective students for review and provide an accurate interpretation of college placement scores. Make referrals to college resources available to provide services or assistance to students. Provides guidance to students for academic planning. Provides input into budgeting and decision-making processes. Keeps abreast of developments in field of expertise basing current instructional practice on recent evidence. Communicates learning expectation. Varies teaching techniques and incorporates current technology. Structures classroom activities and assignments based on learning outcomes. Provides students with written and oral feedback. Engages in self-assessment of teaching practices and professional development needs. Instructors must keep all classes, office hours at the required amount of time set forth by the College and maintain good classroom management.Oversees the labs for courses that require lab time. Must have the ability to set up lab equipment for each class. Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree for the teaching of non-transferrable courses and/or Masters degree with 18 graduate hours in the subject area preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to successfully maintain a teaching load involving courses such as Introduction to Computers. Two years experience teaching students in higher education. The successful candidate will possess competence and experience to develop, revise, implement and assess the curriculum to ensure that students are acquiring current knowledge, including familiarity with technology used in classroom settings. Candidates must have capability and flexibility to teach in the evening and/or online classes with labs that meet in-person during the day. A shared vision for preparing students for their professional programs and an ability and willingness to use novel teaching techniques and technology to engage todays learner is essential. Candidates for this position must possess a thorough knowledge of the teaching field, a commitment to high academic standards, a dedication to student success, and excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the above: (1) law enforcement experience, (2) and/or a Master's degree in Criminology with an emphasis on Criminological Theory and Criminal Behavior, (3) experience teaching courses such as Criminal Behavior, Criminal Typologies, and Criminology Research, and (4) experience teaching at the post-secondary level, preferably at a community college.
