Senior Drafter (Hybrid Schedule)

Primary Purpose:

Performs complex drafting and design task related to the electrical transmission /distribution systems. Can perform 2D, 3D and mapping drafting tasks. Oversees contractor's standards sections workflow process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates or edits 3D Construction Standards in Inventor, including iProperties (metadata), using Vault to link and store files. Creates 3D parts, subassemblies and BOM tables using Inventor. Performs 3D modeling for special projects.
  • Creates or edits Construction Standards or other assignments in AutoCAD 2D environment, including annotation and publishing. Is versatile in other types of drafting such as mechanical, civil or architectural. Can Support Transmission System mapping, job package design sheets, as-built drafting and special projects.
  • Coordinates access to drafting standards, templates and support files for contractors. Performs quality assurance reviews for contractors work.
  • Participates as a drafting Subject Matter Expert (SME), proposes drafting efficiencies and participates in all special projects that pertain to the drafting team.
  • Coordinates technical aspects of work performed with task requestors and team leads. Communicates any discrepancies in design or materials in a timely manner. Coordinates workload with drafting supervisor.
  • Performs research, resolves problems and reports findings on data and source document conflicts.
  • Maintains their own skill sets current with team needs. Gains new skills as needed thru one on one training, software tutorials, in person classes or online webinars. Attends conferences relevant to the needs of the drafting team and as approved by SDG&E
  • Performs quality control and peer reviews of team mates and contractor's work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Knowledge of engineering graphics and/or electronic drafting normally acquired through college level courses.
  • 5 years electrical drafting experience (transmission and/or distribution), including quality control drafting experience.
  • Must be able to use AutoCAD, Inventor and Vault 2020 or above.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Teams., Bluebeam and Adobe. Should be familiar with SharePoint sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience in training of employees in computerized 2D and 3D drafting techniques.
  • 2 years experience in other forms of drafting such as mechanical, civil or architectural.
  • Experience in Map or Civil 3D 2020 or Revit or BIM or Solidworks is desired.

SDG&E offers a competitive total rewards package that goes beyond base salary. This position is eligible for an annual performance-based incentive (bonus) as well as other merit-based recognition. Our Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP) is one way we recognize employee's' work to help us execute and deliver on our strategic priorities. The target for this position is an award of 15% of base salary and is based on individual and company performance for the plan year.
