Job Description
The Montgomery College, Community Arts Program, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching watercolor painting at introductory through advanced levels. Teaching assignments will begin Summer 2025 or Fall 2025 on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing classroom instruction in watercolor painting.
- Working with the Program Manager to adjust classes or create new classes as necessary.
- Preparing a syllabus and appropriate handouts for each class.
Required Qualifications:
- Two years experience as a working artist or arts professional related to the subjects you are teaching, with accomplishments in your area such as exhibitions, lectures, sales/public display, residencies, awards, and/or publications OR the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- An advanced degree in a related discipline can be substituted for this experience.
- Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
- Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching students age 16 and over in hands-on disciplines.
- An educational background in your area, such as a degree (Associate’s or higher) or significant coursework/workshops in related subject matter.
- Ability to teach classes in other studio art, art history/theory, or professional development areas.
- Willingness to teach on other campuses and online.
- Ability to teach evenings and weekends.
Pay Range:
$55 to $67 per classroom hour.
Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
