Research Assistant

Job Description

The Center for Indigenous Health (CIH) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual for a public health initiative aimed at enhancing sexual health and wellness among Native youth. We are seeking a Research Assistant who will play a crucial role in participant recruitment, retention, and communication across multiple sites, contributing to the improvement of health outcomes in Native communities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Research Assistant for the Center’s field-based projects.
  • Specific responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following.
  • As a research assistant for the public health initiative, you will support the day-to-day logistical and operational tasks necessary to successfully implement this initiative.
  • Your specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to,
  • Assist in identifying, recruiting, and retaining youth participants for initiative and related activities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure data integrity and confidentiality in accordance with ethical research practices and institutional guidelines.
  • Facilitate communication between project sites to ensure consistency and alignment in program delivery.
  • Coordinate with local facilitators, volunteers, and coaches to support camp activities and participant engagement.
  • Assist in cross-site support, requiring travel and overnight stays to provide on-the-ground assistance at various project locations.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of initiative, including logistics, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Support the development and adaptation of the health and wellness curriculum to align with cultural and community needs.
  • Work closely with advisory board committees to integrate local perspectives and knowledge into program activities.
  • Participate in community outreach events and meetings to promote the initiative and gather feedback.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for project leadership and funding agencies.
  • Document research activities, including participant interactions, data collection processes, and program outcomes.

  • Proficiency in the use of computers, including software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.

  • Demonstrated strong, positive interpersonal skills.

Other

  • Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required.
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays required as needed. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
  • May be required to float to other sites. Guidelines regarding travel time and project vehicle use will be clarified based on specific site needs.
  • This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency in Navajo or other Indigenous languages is a plus.
  • Previous experience working on health initiatives within Indigenous communities, particularly with Native youth, is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of community geography and navigating rural roads effectively and safely.
