We are seeking a Manager of Sales and Business Development with a diverse background in sales, business development, and marketing in addition to a technical background in photonics, lasers, physics, optics, or related fields. An ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm and a focus on relationships to engage with a wide range of customers and industries, solving challenging optics and photonics problems for customers working in quantum information science. You will work with an exceptionally talented and collaborative multi-disciplinary team of business development, marketing, and engineering professionals. - Manage all phases of the business development process to successfully close on new orders, including opportunity development, quote/proposal development, client presentations, negotiations and contract award.
- Gain in-depth knowledge of our products, understanding of customer needs, and share technical product knowledge and value propositions to generate new sales opportunities.
- Maintain contacts with customers, other corporations, business associations, government agencies, and others.
- Attend trade shows, present and represent the company at technical, social, and business events
- Execute the business plan consistent with short- and long-term objectives related to growth. Manage sales plans and marketing strategies to support Company's objectives
- Assist in the development of the sales forecasts for the business on a monthly rolling basis through analysis an interpretation of general economics, specific market trends, government legislation, sales data, etc.
- Visit prospective, new, and existing customers on a regular basis to assess needs and to foster good relations. Make recommendations to management based on customer feedback
- Determine target markets for growth. Identify and develop potential customers. Market products and services to prospective and existing customers, including making presentations and performing demonstrations
- Recommend the implementation of new initiatives and business opportunities under the direction of senior business development leader, or site leader
- Provide tactical and strategic input into the business development function by evaluating new initiatives and business opportunities
- Conduct sales training and customer relations programs
- Make presentations on company's portfolio of products and services
- Participate/coordinate in strategic alliances and other external business relationships
- Record and manage sales leads and opportunities in Salesforce.com CRM platform
- Inform management team of competitors' activities and recommend a strategy
- Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization
- Proven success in a customer-facing role with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation communication skills
- Planning and organization, project management, and time management skills
- Experience in quantum information sciences (QIS) and/or working closely to support customers in QIS. Background or field application experience in atomic, molecular, and optical physics ideal
- Proficient in using computer software and data analysis tools, including Salesforce, Microsoft Office, or equivalent programs
- Ability to work on complex problems, potentially with multi-faceted business solutions
- Knowledge of company products, markets, and technology
- Strong analytical and financial skills
- Bachelor's degree related to Optics, Photonics, Lasers, Physics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience; Master's degree preferred
The pay scale for this position is $113,385/year - $176,030/year. The pay scale information is a general guideline only. Several factors can influence the pay scale for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic locations, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
