Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work under the medical supervision of the head team physician and is responsible for the day-to-day sports medicine/athletic training operations, primarily with our Women’s Tennis or Cheerleading programs. Duties include prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes; pre-participation physicals; maintaining medical records; completing required insurance claims; daily interaction and communication with coaching staff, athletic trainers, team physicians, and administration; attending team practices and events; supervising student volunteers; and injury prevention programming. Assist the Director of Athletic Training or Head Team Physician with other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 
  • Master’s degree from an accredited athletic training educational program or related field.
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC), CPR and AED Certification for healthcare workers by an accredited organization.
  • Current or eligible State of Maryland Athletic Training Licensure. Possess a valid driver’s license.

Experience:
  • Three (3) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer in collegiate or professional sport organization.
  • Experience providing health care services for college athletes. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication, organizational, administrative, and teamwork skills.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include some evenings, weekends and holidays. 

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Preference working with collegiate or professional tennis, volleyball, or basketball teams.
  • Preferred skills in functional movement assessments and exercises.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duty/Responsibility (1): | Provide comprehensive athletic training services for student athletes including evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, prevention, and documentation of athletic injury /Illness. Attend practices, events and competitions for Women’s Tennis and Cheerleading.
Percentage (1): | 65%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (2): | Positively Interact and communicate on a daily basis with strength coach, student athletes, coaches, physicians, administrators and members of the athletic training staff.
Percentage (2): | 30%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (3): | Comply with policies, rules and regulations governing the NCAA, Big 10 conference, the State of Maryland, the University, the athletic department and the sports medicine program. Maintain continuing education to support and advance knowledge base.
Percentage (3): | 5%

Salary range is $59,192-73,990.

  • A moderate physical effort and levels of dexterity, including but not limited to: The ability to stand for long periods of time in all weather conditions; The ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds; The ability to assist injured individuals on/off the playing field/court/surfaces; The ability to climb, stand, stoop, run, and type. 
  • The ability to work with individuals on various pieces of medical, physical therapy, and/or strength and conditioning equipment
  • The ability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, extended periods of time without days off, travel, and be on-call as a regular part of the daily job.
