Driver, Mobile Go (Part Time)

Job Description

SUMMARY

Will operate a 42-foot gooseneck trailer and or Student Service’s Athletic Department vehicle (Minibus) over long distances and between facilities in a safe, timely and efficient manner. As part of this function, the Driver will drop, hook, spot or otherwise interchange equipment for loading or unloading and efficiently sort, handle, secure and load at various locations under varied conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1.       Conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection of vehicle assigned (Trailer or Minibus), in the manner prescribed by the Department of Transportation.

2.       Safely operate tractor-trailer or minibus equipment in different configurations as assigned, with varying weights as allowed by law, under all types of climatic conditions, terrain, road conditions and traffic situations, in urban and rural settings, for extended periods of time, over long distances, either direct or by way of other intermediate points, in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations and Company policy.

3.       Drop, hook, spot, switch and otherwise interchange equipment; hook and unhooks trailer from the truck itself.  Push, pull, place, lift and attach or detach various types of converter gear when necessary.

4.       Safely transport the Mobile Go Center trailer or minibus to and from events, Laptop Computer Setup and storing, TV’s setup and storing, Internet setup and storing, Sound System setup and storing. 

5.       Responsible for ensuring all Inspections and Scheduled Maintenance is performed on all Department vehicles (Vehicle Maintenance will be performed by qualified vendors).

6.       Responsible for maintaining a current Inspection/Maintenance Log Record of all Department vehicles.  

7.       Perform data entry work (Maintenance reports, Event Activity reports, Student Activity reports, etc.).

8.       Check cargo at the company terminal and properly secures or re-secure the cargo as may be required.

9.       Maintain driver daily log in accordance with D.O.T. and Company requirements.

10.   Properly and efficiently completes all necessary paperwork including inspection reports accident reports and any other report or record required by law.

11.   Perform roadside inspections as required by the law, various administrative agency regulations and Company policy.

12.   Install and remove tire chains and fuel equipment needed; responsible for reporting any highway safety hazards observed.

13.   Provide initial contact with public safety or law enforcement officials and the public when involved in traffic accidents or hazardous material incidents.

14.   Wash and clean truck, trailer and minibus as needed; this includes vehicles’ outer body, tires, windows and mirrors.

15.   Assist with general student registration and aid help students navigate through specific websites.

16.   Assist and ensure that all students complete the Mobile Go Center Online Recruitment Card.

17.   Assist with sending pre-formatted “Thank You” emails to Mobile Go Center Event attendees.

18.   Assist with the management, inventory and scheduling of athletic equipment when required.

19.   Maintain athletic vehicle’s Schedule to accommodate Athletic Events and Student Activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION

High school diploma required

Associate degree preferred

Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Truck Driving Certificate

Must meet all the qualification requirements of, and not be disqualified under the US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Parts 383 and 391

Must posses a current valid Class A CDL with requisite endorsements (Double/Triples, HAZMAT)

EXPERIENCE

3 years of recent driving experience as an over-the-road driver, operating similar equipment over similar terrains and road conditions for long distances in various traffic and weather conditions required, or has graduated from a Company-approved training program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1.       MS Office Programs

2.       Able to operate any type of configuration of equipment assigned, including various types and combinations of owned, leased or rented, single or tandem axle tractors or straight truck

3.       Knowledge of and complies with the laws, regulations and procedures regarding safe commercial motor vehicle operations and motor vehicle accidents

4.       Able to read, write, communicate and comprehend the English language sufficiently to perform the various tasks of the job, including, but not limited to communicating with coworkers and the public, understanding oral and written instructions, highway traffic signs and signals

5.       Able to accurately and efficiently perform the mathematical calculations necessary to do the work, including the counting of freight, calculation of weight, determination of hours of service, computation of time and mileage, etc.

6.       Able to drive and/or work to the maximum number of hours allowed under D.O.T Hours of Service and road regulation

7.       Physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle as demonstrated by a current medical examiner’s certificate

8.       Able to work independently, without constant supervision

9.       Have a record of safe and competent driving (personal and commercial) as demonstrated on state Motor Vehicle Records
