Our Faculty – Visual Arts Studio (Generalist) instructor will work within the Department of Art & Design to teach foundational studio art courses. Studio courses may include, but are not limited to, Two-Dimensional Design, Drawing, Painting and Portfolio. Instructor must be well-versed in a range of foundational techniques, materials and processes. Instructor will be expected to play an active role in various departmental duties such as mentoring/advising students, promoting safety throughout the department, developing/improving curriculum, SLOs, assessment tools, supporting the campus gallery, supporting student exhibitions, and other duties as assigned by the Program Chair. The department has a rigorous AFA transfer program and faculty are expected to prepare students for entry into competitive BFA programs.
All faculty in the Department of Art & Design are expected to fully participate and support activities outside of the classroom such as student exhibitions, related college events, and also work off campus within the creative community. These events often occur in the evenings and/or on the weekends, and all full-time faculty are required to participate.

Required Education/Experience:
One of the following degrees is required (degree must be earned by August 1, 2024):
- Master of Fine Art (MFA) or MAFA degree
*It is absolutely imperative that applicants be familiar with and supportive of the community college environment, the AFA degree, and foundation-level students.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Desire to work in a thriving department
- Knowledge of the AFA degree program and its relationship to BAFA/BFA programs
- Desire to develop courses, new teaching methods, and otherwise contribute to the department
- Applicant should be quality-driven, enthusiastic, and eager to be part of a team
- Applicant must be willing to work during evenings and/or on weekends
- Desire to become an active member of the broader arts and cultural community of Rowan and Cabarrus Counties

Faculty are required to teach 18-21 contact hours each semester (fall and spring).
Faculty are 9-month employees and are not required to teach over the summer.
Courses may be offered during the day/evening/weekend hours as determined by the Program Chair.
Additionally faculty must hold either 5 office hours OR 5 open studio hours each week as well as 5 hours per week of other college-related duties and/or on-campus hours.
Full-time faculty in the Department of Fine & Applied Arts are required to work events such as student exhibitions, guest lectures, arts festivals, etc. that often occur during weekend or non-traditional working hours. Full participation in these events is required.
