Responsibilities*

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to conduct research on the developmental reprogramming of gestational exposure to excess testosterone and the transfer of programmed defects to the next generation and whether overfeeding will amplify the adverse effects of prenatal testosterone treatment on the reproductive and metabolic systems. Research will focus on the effects of prenatal testosterone excess on epigenetic, molecular, and functional alterations in reproductive and cardio-metabolic systems. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in biological / health sciences (or related field) and a strong background in molecular biology techniques. Specific duties will involve the following:

  • Investigate the molecular mechanisms by which exposure to excess testosterone during pregnancy affect reproductive and metabolic function. Investigate how inappropriate exposure to excess testosterone such as that seen in PCOS and hyperandrogenic disorders reprogram the trajectory of the developing individual using a combination of cellular, molecular and functional studies
  • Bench research including data collection, analysis (graphing and statistics), quality control, and involvement in manuscript/grant preparation
  • Maintain detailed and organized research notes, write research manuscripts and grant proposals
  • Train undergraduate students and be a team player

Required Qualifications*

A Ph.D. in biological sciences (or related field) and a strong background in molecular and immunohistochemical techniques and image analyses. This individual is expected to demonstrate the capacity for critical scientific thinking and creativity, design and conduct studies, undertake data analysis, assist with training, and prepare manuscripts for publication. Excellent communication skills (writing and speaking). The successful candidate will enjoy a collaborative atmosphere both within the University of Michigan and an extensive collaborative network.

The applicant will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary, highly collaborative research team that interacts with other laboratories across the University of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in the following areas: molecular assays (DNA/RNA isolation, quantitative RT-PCR), blotting/probing, histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, image and data analyses, RNA sequencing.
