Position Summary
Applications are sought for a full-time, NIH-funded postdoctoral scholar position at Indiana University at Bloomington (IUB) in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. The successful candidate will be a team member of the interdisciplinary research program in the laboratory of Dr. Hui-Chen Lu (http://www.lulaboratory.com/) in the Gill Center (http://www.indiana.edu/~gillctr/Lu.shtml) at IUB. The high and increasing prevalence as well as the staggering social and financial costs of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-related dementia (ADRD) emphasize the importance of finding strategies to prevent or slow their progression. Here we aim to elucidate the basic biology of neuronal maintenance and energy homeostasis to enable us to design new therapeutic strategies NMNAT2 is a bifunctional protein that we and others have identified as an important neuronal maintenance factor. With support from NINDS, we aim to elucidate how pathological conditions alter brain energy metabolism and evaluate mechanism-based potential therapies to reverse proteinopathy.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in a neuroscience-related discipline and have a track record of seeing projects through to completion. This candidate should be able to carry out scientific projects independently with scientific rigor. The candidate will join a dynamic, diverse, and collaborative center of excellence that has as a goal to develop post-docs into independent investigators.
