Position Summary
Lead the development and growth of academic programs in business and professional studies to include business administration, accounting, entrepreneurship, paralegal, criminal justice, and culinary. Establish and coordinate strong industry partnerships and align curriculum to local need. Oversee the implementation of instruction for existing and new certificates and degrees in the fields of business and professional studies at Santa Fe Community College. Play a key role in the growth and development of faculty for onsite, and dual-credit program delivery as well as experiential learning in field placement settings. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.
 
 
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Establish and maintain Advisory Committees utilizing community and industry representatives in recruiting and other departmental needs as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other departmental colleagues and industry professionals to grow and develop programs that address changing industry needs and professional standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry for development of curriculum and student placement.
  • Identify, participate in the hiring process of, and mentor qualified instructors.
  • Work with lead faculty and the Office of the Dean to coordinate program activities and develop class schedules.
  • Lead program recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
  • Participate in various departmental and campus-wide committees.
  • Create, update, and provide promotional materials, application and orientation packets and student policies and guides.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing and Public Relations Office and participate in communications and promotional activities in support of the education programs both on and off campus.
  • Assist in meeting state and college documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and local requirements related to education programs and accreditation; serve as a technical resource related to education programs; and represent the College within community and secondary school organizations, as needed.
  • Provide administrative support to educational programs including scheduling classes, student course substitution requests, syllabi revisions, graduation process, etc.
  • Maintain program records and databases; assist with analysis of program and in the development of periodic and annual reports; and maintain internal student records and reports related to current and former students.
  • Assist with and participate in special projects, including provision of information sessions and other related events.
  • Participate in staff, faculty, and departmental meetings.
  • Respond to and initiate emails, phone calls and voice messages.
  • Although the above are typical of the duties and responsibilities normally performed, additional duties and responsibilities requiring the same or lesser skills, knowledge and dexterity may be required.

  • Knowledge of current teaching methodologies and practices, such as cooperative learning, service-learning, traditional and alternative assessment.

  • Knowledge of curriculum design and planning.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/ office work environment
 
Work Hours:
  • Typically, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after-hours and/or weekends.
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a business or professional studies field or related area.
  • 5 years industry-related experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary or college setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, online and technology-enriched teaching, and student advising.
  • Experience in teacher mentoring and strong record of continuing professional development.
  • Experience working in a multicultural setting.
