Job Responsibilities

Strategy and Performance

• Lead cross-functional teams through best-practice ESG materiality assessments to uncover and define material ESG issues for Petco.
• Conduct regular assessments of environmental performance, identifying areas for improvement, setting measurable targets, and reporting progress updates.
• Perform a gap analysis leveraging data, benchmarks, and insights from evolving ESG standards to evaluate Petco's current performance and future opportunities.

Measurement, Evaluation and Reporting

• Lead the development of Petco's annual ESG report, collaborating with various Petco teams to gather key data points partnering closely with Legal and Internal Audit teams to assure the information. Own the overall report narrative development and partner with copywriting and creative teams to bring the report to life.
• Oversee the submission process for sustainability reporting frameworks, ensuring transparency and accountability in communicating progress to stakeholders.
• In partnership with IR and Legal, assist in responding to ESG investor inquiries throughout the year.

Operations and Cross-Functional Management

• Lead cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability principles into business operations, including supply chain management, product development, packaging, and waste reduction.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executives, department heads, and frontline staff, to foster a culture of sustainability and ensure alignment with company objectives.
• Further partnerships with external organizations, NGOs, and industry groups to advance sustainability initiatives, leverage resources, and amplify impact.
• Lead employee training and engagement programs to raise awareness of sustainability issues and empower staff to contribute to the company's goals.
• Manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to deliver on sustainability commitments and drive continuous improvement.

The Sr. Manager, Sustainability will work closely with the Vice President of Sustainability, Chief ESG and Communications Officer, Legal, and other internal partners to create and execute environmental and other priority ESG initiatives. Collaboration with Petco functions like Finance, Corporate Communications, Legal, Internal Audit, Sourcing, HR, DEI, and others will be key to success. The role will also interface with external partners and industry working groups to identify solutions and scale Petco's positive impact.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, business management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in sustainability management, preferably within the retail or consumer goods industry.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing successful sustainability initiatives that deliver measurable results.
• Strong understanding of environmental issues, social responsibility principles, and relevant regulations and standards.
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive complex initiatives from conception to completion.
• Exceptional written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and external advocacy is desirable.
• Certification in sustainability-related disciplines (e.g., LEED, CSR, GRI) is a plus.
• Passion for sustainability and a commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and society.
