The mission of University Advancement is to secure support for NC State University in terms of dollars, service, and engagement by delivering an integrated program of development, alumni relations, communications and marketing, and advancement services. Our objective is to build deep and long-term relationships with alumni and other stakeholders and partners that will ensure increased support to NC State in the future.
Advancement Services provides timely, accurate, and actionable resources to enhance fundraising and engagement activities at NC State University. We achieve this through effective business intelligence and reporting, compelling donor research and analysis, innovative technology, quality donor and alumni information, and superior customer service, all while applying ethical gift and data management practices. Advancement Services supports the operations of Alumni Relations, University Development and University Communications. The unit oversees the University’s alumni and donor database, AdvanceTM, Advance BI systems, processing gifts and conducting research about potential contribution opportunities. Advancement Services also maintains financial records, conducts donor research, receipts corporate & individual private gifts following the NC State Standard Operating Procedures for Acceptance of Gifts, administers the corporate matching gifts program, updates & verifies alumni records, manages donor prospect tracking systems, plans and manages gift agreements & endowment reports.
Essential Job Duties
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Using our library of research tools, investigate, interpret, and analyze internal and external data to identify and assess potential new major gift prospects for the university.
- Review and synthesize accumulated asset and other information to evaluate financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and connection to campus initiatives.
- Interpret complex financial disclosure documents and evaluate other wealth factors to produce philanthropic capacity estimates.
- Utilize critical and creative thinking skills to determine when standard formulas and processes are not appropriate and other evaluation methods are necessary.
- Collaborate with development officers across campus by proactively providing data and recommendations on new and existing prospects.
- Proactively build, evaluate, and manage prospect pipelines to meet the needs of the colleges/development units to which the analyst is assigned.
- Segment and analyze large data sets and summarize the information to provide suggestions, especially for enhancing discovery pools.
Other Responsibilities
- Actively maintain/improve professional knowledge and participate in related training sessions; participate in planned and ad-hoc activities designed to improve team and office effectiveness and efficiency.

Minimum Experience/Education
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
- Previous database management experience.
- Knowledge of software used for fundraising/alumni data and an understanding of information management in a database structure.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, with an advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills, including the ability to show flexibility and adaptability when confronted with competing priorities and interests.
- The ability to interact effectively and collegially with diverse groups who may have different purposes.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously, accommodate shifting priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with database operations and usage, including CRM and other relational databases.
- Proficiency in using subscription information services, especially those commonly used in Prospect Research (LexisNexis, iWave, electronic capacity screening tools)
- Experience in fundraising or fundraising support (preferably higher education fundraising).
