Job Description
The Nicolais School of Business at Wagner College, located in one of the five boroughs of New York City, invites applicants to apply for a full-time position for a Clinical Professor of Finance to start in Fall 2024.
The ideal candidate will understand and develop the relevant skills today’s business student needs upon graduation; be current with recent pedagogical approaches which include online, hybrid learning; possess an ability to be innovative in the classroom through experiential learning, real-world applications, and industry partnerships; believe in the importance of a liberal arts education as a foundation for a business degree; possess the desire to participate in the growth of the school and the accounting program; and display a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
About the Nicolais School of Business
The Nicolais School of Business has ambitious goals to grow enrollment at both the undergraduate and graduate level, to develop innovative, relevant, and high-impact curriculum and programs to prepare students to thrive in an ever-changing business world, and to cultivate and forge our brand identity in the marketplace. Through practical education, based in a liberal arts tradition, our goal is to prepare students to become impactful business leaders, effective communicators, and responsible global citizens committed to creating an equitable and socially just society.
The Nicolais School is accredited by Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). We are in the exploratory stage of drafting a plan to become AACSB-accredited and the new faculty member will play an integral role in developing a vision for the future of the Nicolais School of Business. We seek a candidate who is committed to growth and who wants to be a part of that vision. Given our location, there are many opportunities to build upon existing partnerships and form new collaborations to help develop the faculty member and to identify and provide opportunities for our students.
Qualifications
- The candidate must possess an MBA, Master of Science or Ph.D in Finance from an accredited (ACBSP or AACSB), not-for-profit College or university prior to the start of appointment.
- 3+ years of experience at a firm in a finance function is strongly desired.
- 3+ years of teaching experience as an adjunct, Clinical, Visiting, or Full-Time faculty is preferred.
- The candidate must possess a robust interest in excellent teaching and a strong commitment to College and school-wide service activities such as serving on committees and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
- We are seeking individuals with interest in teaching a variety of finance topics including principles of finance, corporate finance, investments, portfolio theory at the graduate and undergraduate levels
Responsibilities
- Teaching: The teaching load for this position at the Nicolais School of Business is three sections per semester (six per academic year) with, typically, 2-3 preps per semester. There are opportunities to teach inter-disciplinary courses and honors courses.
- Student advising at the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Participation in College-wide and school-specific committees, as appropriate.
- Advising clubs/honor society and building and maintaining industry partnerships.
Wagner College
Located in Staten Island, NY and overlooking the Manhattan skyline, Wagner College is a private, non-sectarian 80% residential college of 1,600 traditional-aged undergraduates and 300 graduate students in selected professional programs. Wagner College offers 34 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in six fields. The most popular majors include business administration, nursing, theatre, physician assistant, arts administration, and psychology. All students complete internships or practica during their time at Wagner, over 90 percent of courses contain fewer than 30 students, and 37 percent of students participate in study abroad experiences. A recent faculty-led revision to the general education program deploys an impressive skill-based approach with a strong emphasis on writing, reading, oral competence, research, creativity, intercultural competence, technological competence and information literacy, and quantitative and critical thought. Wagner College is fully accredited by the Regents of the University of the State of New York and by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). It is a member of the American Council on Education, The Council of Independent Colleges, Association of American Colleges and Universities, and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.

Additional Information
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. Wagner College considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
