International Student Advisor

Job Description

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVISOR, International Students Office, to advise international students on immigration regulations and procedures.  Will serve as the advisor point-of-contact for a designated cohort of academic programs/departments and their international students and provide counseling on U.S. immigration regulations, Institute and department policy, and personal, cultural adjustment, and other issues related to supporting a student’s successful experience; serve as a Designated School Official (F student visa program) for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and as an Alternate Responsible Officer for the Department of State’s J Exchange Visitor Program; issue immigration forms and process applications through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS); serve designated periods as the ISO advisor-on-call; and conduct orientation and other programming as necessary for designated advising cohort and general ISO programs. 

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; at least three years’ direct/related work experience; proficient-level knowledge of federal immigration and governmental and state agencies’ regulations; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; initiative; meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines; discretion; and proficiency with standard computer software.  Must be able to self-set priorities and juggle competing demands in an extremely fast-paced environment; work independently within a team-oriented environment; communicate effectively with a diverse community of people; establish effective relationships with other campus administrative offices; and address large groups.  PREFERRED: master’s degree; experience with international student advising; knowledge of the SEVIS and U.S. immigration regulations pertaining to the F and J student visa types; cross-cultural or multicultural experience; fluency in a language other than English; experience living abroad; experience with Sunapsis international student record management software; and MIT experience and familiarity with its procedures/practices.  Job #23754-7

Salary range:  $68,000 – 75,000

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.

U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required per U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State regulations.
