Position Summary
The Coordinator for Student Eligibility reports to the Assistant Director for Student Eligibility and serves as a primary member of the Student Eligibility team. The position has primary oversight and responsibility for verification, data resolution, and all forms of professional judgment appeals made in accordance with federal guidelines. The Coordinator for Student Eligibility is expected to serve as the subject matter expert in basic principles of student eligibility, application, verification, and professional judgment as prescribed by federal regulations and institutional policies which administer those regulations.
These functions are accomplished by performing these duties:
- Serve as the primary contact within the Office of Financial Aid for all student eligibility topics, verification, and professional judgment appeals
- Oversee policies, procedures, and processing of all verification, data resolution, and professional judgment appeals, including:
- Needs analysis and EFC appeals
- Cost of attendance budget appeals
- Dependency overrides
- Maintain current and up to date understanding of federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to professional judgment
- Work closely with the other Coordinator for Student Eligibility to coordinate completing all verification, data resolution, and professional judgment appeals
- Provide support as necessary to all areas of the Student Eligibility team
The Coordinator for Student Eligibility works to ensure that the Office of Financial Aid, Operations Unit, and Student Eligibility team activities are managed efficiently, effectively, compliantly, and in adherence to the mission and culture of the University.
This position is a full-time appointment, based on the CSU Fort Collins campus, with the potential for flexible work arrangements including hybrid office/remote work.

Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with experience in higher education.
- Two years of full-time professional experience (excluding student employee experience) working in a Title IV Financial Aid Office with a demonstrated knowledge of federal student financial aid regulations.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, as demonstrated by application materials submitted.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service to students, families, and both on- and off-campus constituents.
- A personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience managing federal, state and institution aid, budgets, and processes.
- Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner student information system.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Three years of full-time professional experience working in a Title IV Financial Aid Office with a demonstrated knowledge of federal student financial aid regulations, specifically in the areas of professional judgment and/or verification.

Establish and maintain policies and procedures for the following professional judgment appeals in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policy and guidelines:
- Needs analysis and EFC appeals
- Cost of attendance budget appeals
- Dependency overrides
Reviews forms and documentation in order to process all professional judgment appeals
Makes all necessary changes to the students Free Application for Federal Student Aid to determine if there is additional aid eligibility in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations
Update Financial Aid award based on the any EFC changes that were affected by a professional judgment decision
Reviews forms, documentation, deadlines, timeframes, and evaluation standards to ensure timely processing of appeals.
Remains abreast of federal, state, and institutional professional judgment regulations that may affect documentation needs for the listed appeals.
Maintains availability as the primary resource for issues related to professional judgment appeals and provides timely support to office staff so that they may quickly and effectively respond to student question and concerns.

Provides review and screening of all eligibility-related documents necessary to evaluate eligibility for federal student financial aid funds. Reviews student-submitted information from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) against eligibility-related documents and exercises independent judgment in analysis of student/parent tax, earnings, and household data in establishing eligibility for federal student financial aid funds.
Regularly reviews exception reports to identify conflicting information, discrepancies, or other issues that are inherent to financial aid application review. Resolves identified issues and maintains a schedule for the regular review of said reports.
Remains abreast of federal, state, and institutional verification regulations that may affect documentation needs for verification of FAFSA and/or institutional aid application data.
Maintains availability as a resource for issues related to verification and provides timely support to office staff so that they may quickly and effectively respond to student questions and concerns.
Adjusts financial aid awards as required by verified changes in eligibility.

Actively supports varying areas of the Student Eligibility team and the Operations Unit as necessary and directed by the Assistant Director for Student Eligibility or the Associate Director for Operations
Assist with processing, reviewing and adjusting aid functions as required. Supports work as needed throughout the Operations Unit with other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for Student Eligibility, the Associate Director for Operations, or the Director of Financial Aid.
