Job Summary
The Michigan Medicine Department of Pathology Associate Operations Director will oversee core hospital services including Specimen Processing (including sendouts, and external results), Phlebotomy (inpatient, outpatient, and satellite), and the Clinical Core Laboratory. This role is expected to work independently and in collaboration with clinical laboratory personnel, regularly exercising good judgment in setting priorities, resolving operational problems, and the application of policies, procedures, and methods. Primary duties are administrative in nature including overseeing, optimizing, and maintaining superior quality across all assigned sections.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position closely partners with and supports the work of the Director of Clinical Pathology with the primary goal of maintaining and continuously improving operations in assigned clinical service areas. The areas of responsibility and focus of this position may vary or expand over time based the ever-evolving needs of the department, so flexibility and adaptability are essential for success in this role. The individual in this position is expected to be a role model in the department and a representative of Michigan Medicine. They are expected to exercise poise, gravitas, respect, integrity, professionalism, and inclusivity in all aspects of job performance. This role has high visibility across and interaction with institutional leadership and represents the Department of Pathology as well as the health system and its operating officers. Data-based decision-making and transparent communications are essential.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports to the Chief Department Administrator (CDA) of the Department of Pathology. The individual in this role will meet regularly with the CDA for guidance, mentoring and feedback on performance, and they will provide data and reports to the CDA on a regular interval. This position has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Division Director of Clinical Pathology (faculty physician) and must operate according to all medical, regulatory, and service expectations of the Director of Clinical Pathology, the department, and the institution.

Work Schedule
This full time position is an average of 40 hrs/wk (100%); may need to work additional hours depending on emergent issues and/or projects. This position requires on-call duties to be rotated among other members of the general operations team as Pathology Administrators on-call and may require working off shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
