Open NIH-funded postdoc position in the Ulijasz Lab

Pseudomonas aeruginosa host-pathogen interactions

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • The role requires a person who is creative and passionate about scientific experimentation, interpretation of results and publishing their work.
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish their own line of research, taking advantage of the excellent scientific and collaborative research environment at UAB. 
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Maintain a strong record of excellence in research
  • Maintain current knowledge in the field of microbiology and immunology
  • Lead research projects and teams when necessary
  • Present research findings at conferences and meetings
  • Supervise research assistants and PhD students

The Ulijasz lab is looking for an innovative and motivated individual who has a passion for science and is a team player. You need to communicate well with others and have skill in managing and training scientists. The candidate will work with the PI, other postdocs, graduate students, technicians, and other labs/facilities to accomplish research goals in molecular biology and microbial infection. Our lab uses a variety of biochemical, cell biology, and molecular techniques to answer important questions in the field of microbiology. This exciting NIH-funded project is focused on host-pathogen interactions of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We have discovered that phagocytes use aldehydes as a weapon against infection and have elucidated several genes involved in the sensing and remediation of host produced glyoxal.
