Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) – a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) under the UMD Vice President of Research (VPR). ARLIS seeks to hire an Information Science Specialist to support the Acquisition and Industrial Security (A&IS) Mission Area. We seek talented professionals who can work with a team to support the research, construction, implementation, test, documentation, and maintenance of socio-technical solutions that provide highly impactful capabilities for the special operations and intelligence community. Specifically, much of our work focuses on policy and implementation relating to manufacturing, data and knowledge engineering, model-based systems engineering, digital supply chains, and library science.
The Information Science Specialist’s responsibilities include:
- Assessing and evaluating requirements for records management.
- Developing written reports and briefings on records management for the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Services (Air Force, Army, Navy), and other DoD stakeholders.
- Supporting the development and implementation of national and DoD-wide policy, guidance, and training on classification and declassification management.

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in data science, information science, or a related field.

Experience:
- Experience developing, updating, and coordinating policy and developing reports and briefing materials for key stakeholders and customers.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.

- Documented research experience specific to information science either as part of academic activities (e.g., dissertation) or professional experience.
- Experience working on applications for national security or social and economic policy
- 0-3 years of experience in at least one area of information science, such as archives and preservation, informatics, argumentation, or data curation, modeling, and analytics.
- Active security clearance.
Additional Information:
Salary range is $58,656-$134,925.
