Description

Applications for Part-Time, Adjunct Instructor pools are continually accepted (unless otherwise specified) by the District. They will be added to the application pool for review by hiring authorities on an as-needed basis. Should you be invited for an interview, you will be contacted by a District representative.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism OR the equivalent, OR a valid California Community College Instructor Credential in Language Arts or Literature.
 

License
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation AND San Diego Sherriff’s Department clearance prior to being hired.

 

Duties

Southwestern College is looking to hire a part-time instructor to teach:

• ENGL115 College Composition: Reading and Writing Analytically:  Provides instruction and practice in reading and writing expository, analytical, and argumentative essays. Emphasizes textual analysis, writing analytically, logical reasoning, research techniques, information literacy, and documentation. Includes drafting, revising, and editing written work. 

Class modality is face-to-face and includes lectures and lab.
 

• ENGL116 Critical Thinking and Argument:  Provides instruction in argumentation in critical writing, critical thinking, and analytical evaluation of complex texts. Emphasizes rhetorical analysis in terms of a text's social, historical, and critical contexts. Includes the writing process, research strategies, information literacy, and proper documentation

Class modality is face-to-face and includes lectures and lab.

Candidates selected for employment with Southwestern Community College District must be fingerprinted by an electronic fingerprinting service (i.e. LiveScan) within 10 days of employment; provide clearance of tuberculosis (dated within the past 4 years and renewed every four years as a condition of continued employment) within 60 days of employment; provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Successful candidate selected may be assigned to any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, Crown Cove, National City, Otay Mesa, and/or San Ysidro).
