Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Alumni Association connects, cultivates, and channels the power of Terps to enrich themselves and advance the University. Career programs are one of the four main priorities of the Alumni Association Strategic Plan and we will be implementing existing and new programs to “empower Terps to live a life of meaning and impact.”

The Manager of Alumni Engagement and Outreach will play an integral role in engaging our alumni through meaningful professional networking and mentorship opportunities, both in-person and online. The Program Manager will create and execute a strategic plan that helps alumni build skills and relationships to advance their careers and achieve their professional goals. This will include managing a robust portfolio of events and opportunities to help alumni gain new connections to find jobs and directly connect with fellow alumni, and may include:

Mentorship & Networking
  • Oversee and grow online networking platform
  • Create and execute mentorship programming in partnership with relevant campus stakeholders and notable alumni
  • Create opportunities for student-to-alum and alum-to-alum mentorship and networking

Alumni Career Connection and Skills Building Events & Initiatives
  • Independently create and execute career connection events & opportunities including but not limited to:
  • Signature Career week
  • Speed networking/mentoring
  • Affinity/interest based networking (job seekers, career changes, recent graduates, and other life stage-based programming efforts)
  • Skills building workshops and events
  • Career Resources including Coaches Corner and Career Guides

In addition, the Program Manager will oversee all virtual career programs. This includes creating marketing plans and email copy to drive participation rates, creating and editing written and video content, and facilitating technical updates to improve platforms.

As we implement our new strategic plan, specific career, mentorship and networking programs may shift.

This position will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of five years of experience in alumni relations, event management, career/professional development or related field.
  • Successful candidates must have experience working with/executing virtual programs, as well as experience creating marketing pieces (such as emails or newsletters).
  • Candidates must also have experience with Advance or similar data management platform or CRM.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for or the willingness to learn the mission and vision of the Alumni Association.
  • Experience with mentorship programs, planning career-related events.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team, as well as independently execute.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Creative thinker, problem solver and self starter.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and able to interact effectively with both external and internal audiences and capable of building strong working relationships in a complex environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, prioritize tasks, think proactively, work independently, using good judgment and expertise to make decisions.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive and Zoom, or similar products.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Must have reliable transportation to accommodate working evenings/weekends.

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience with online-based applications
  • An understanding and appreciation of the values of a public higher education institution and the ability to articulate them to internal and external constituencies.
  • Prior experience with an institution of higher education.
  • Experience with Drupal, InDesign and other similar software.

Salary Range is the high $60,000s to low $80,000s.
This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.
